The Counterpoint Cafe --
New Work by Stephan Phillips and Yvonne Piburn

*Wednesday, July 1st, through Sunday, July 26, 2009
**Opening reception: Friday, July 3rd, 5-8 pm*

Staged cafe tables and jazz music transform the typical gallery setting.
Life and art become entwined as objects from the paintings spill over
onto the tables of the cafe. Different interpretations of our world come
into focus as viewers see its representation in painting. This is the
Counterpoint Cafe.

How do we as individuals respond to the world around us? At State of
the Art Gallery during July, Yvonne Piburn and Stephan Phillips, two
artists working within the still life genre, explore this question.
Their show, called /The Counterpoint Café/ is an exhibition of new work
by both artists.

During the month of their exhibition, the artists will be present in the
gallery at the following times: Piburn on July 10, 11 and 16, 12-3pm
and Phillips on July 26, 12-5. This is an opportunity for gallery
visitors to meet each artist and see and view their paintings in their
company.

A reception for the artists will be held Friday, July 3 from 5 to 8pm at
the gallery. "|The Counterpoint Café" runs from July 1-26, 2009. State
of the Art is located at 120 W. State Street in Ithaca. There is
