Artist's Statement
I am captivated by the skies and sunsets that I see over Lake Cayuga and the grand open vistas of the fields and sparkling, often rushing streams, waterfalls and lakes of the Finger Lakes region of New York. There is such beauty everywhere. It is a challenge to find the right green to paint a hillside when everything appears bright emerald in the sunlight or very monochromatic on a cloudy day. It is interesting to see how the Lake and sky seem to be the same color as the lake reflects the sky, or to paint a boat sailing in the wind. In winter, I paint flowers and think of Henri Matisse as I try to express my love of color in my still life paintings.
I paint in the impressionist style, often abstractly. Trying to capture my observations and emotions on canvas through my affinity for vivid color, bold strokes and paint texture is my happiest time.
