Artist Statement
My art consists of box-constructed assemblages with doors that open
and close, providing multiple layers in a metaphoric as well as physical
sense. Recurring themes explore gender, violence in our society, science
and technology, nature, relationships, and beauty. It is always a
reflection of both the external world and the interior life, often
incorporating paint, drawing, found objects and, always, poetry. The
poetry may be manifest in picture, concept or the written word, and
it has been so since since I have been able to grasp an implement
to make marks on paper. For me, the making of pictures and the writing
of words stem from the same impulse; both are a way to indulge and
transcend my obsessions.
I received a BS in art education, summa cum laude, from Kutztown University
of Pennsylvania and an MA in studio art from Marywood University.
I have exhibited my work in galleries in New York State, Northeastern
Pennsylvania and in Cologne, Germany. |
