Two significant events in the past few years have shaped my consciousness: the destruction of the World Trade Center and President Bush’s March 19, 2003 declaration of war against Iraq in order to find weapons of mass destruction. The photographically derived work in this exhibition documents the unsettling mix of horror and humor of our time. Most importantly, it is a tribute to the Fallen Warriors of Iraqi Freedom, both those of the American military and all others who have lost their lives because of this war.
Not Forgotten
Jan Kather teaches photography and video art at Elmira College, Elmira, NY. In January she was awarded a 2007 Artist Crossroads Decentralization Grant from the Arts of the Southern Finger Lakes for a project titled “Aleatoric Video.” Look for it to be shown in unusual places late in the summer of 2007!
