I am intrigued with layers in images. For me these are metaphors that operate on several levels: layers of life cycles, layers of human culture, and layers of human psyche. The use of floral Images is intentional. Flowers show us most clearly about life cycles, ever changing, evolving.

The flower objects I use are initially scanned in on a large bed flatbed scanner and then assembled using Photoshop. I have found over the years that I can get finer detail by scanning as opposed to working from a camera image. I have also found that a scanned image has a special quality of light not achievable through other photo processes.

Lately I like to print my work on stretched canvas because they have a presence and directness not experienced in prints framed under glass. Some of my latest works go even further and are shaped canvases in larger sizes, up to 4' by 6'. These pieces have an even more pronounced presence than other canvas works, inviting the viewer to a heightened active interaction with the floral imagery.

Color is my passion! I have an inner picture that is like a kaleidoscope of bright colors I am chasing after, seeking order in the abundance of possibilities, allowing myself to create exuberance and excitement. After having painted abstracts for many years, I started doing collages, using all kinds of papers, fabrics, ribbons and shapes. I am interested in putting the colorful shapes in space, where the distance and the connections to each other are important and where a playful scene is created. This work--collages mounted on the gallery walls and freestanding collages/sculptures--is a celebration of color, shapes and movement. Although it was not a concept from the start, I imagine music playing and people dancing among my three-dimensional pieces.

An artist is an explorer, discovering new possibilities. It is a never-ending process.
